Swivel joints
a)The all swivel joint assemblies shall be made up of ball bearings in at least two replaceable surfaces races with provision for lubrication and maintenance. The swivel joints at the arm riser and apex shall be flanged for maintenance access. Alternatively, swivels shall be of split flange design enabling ease of maintenance. The packing material for all loading arm swivel joints shall be Viton or better material suitable for the intended service and loading products, such as gasoline, pyrolysis gasoline with benzene content, MTBE, toluene and xylenes. The outboard swivel joint shall be self-leveling and with the packing riding on a stainless steel inlay. The stainless steel inlay shall be on both packing faces of the swivel joint. The improved version of swivel joints may be accepted if there are technical and commercial advantages.
b)Swivel joints shall be capable of being lubricated without dismantling. A lubricant relief port shall be provided to safeguard against over-pressurization. The riser and apex swivel joint assemblies shall have devices to permit repacking without dismantling major section of arm.
c)Swivel joint assemblies shall permit re-packing without dismantling major section of arms. The triple swivel is the only exception to this. The triple swivel, support device, couple and valve shall be balanced so that the outboard flange remains in the vertical plane for all arm attitudes. All swivel joints shall prevent water ingress wherever possible. Swivel joint seals shall be suitable for temporary vacuum conditions and reseat properly afterwards.
d)Provide manual grease pump and greasing tube and hoses at the base of the loading arm to lubricate the apex swivel joint. The swivel joint at the loading arm coupler shall have grease nipples for the above purpose.
